2020 Constance Holland Scholarship Recipient
Naomi is a graduate of Bloomington High School South. Naomi is a very bright young woman, a mover and shaker who has exemplified leadership in her school and in the community. She was an athlete and a manager for the football team. As someone who is passionate about honoring the contributions of Black people to society, she served as president of the Black culture club at her school, leading her fellow students in programs and activities focused on Black history, culture, and pride. This role resulted in her winning a Panther Plus Leadership Award and being featured in the equity spotlight Bloomington High School South.
Naomi has also been extremely active in the community. In 2018, she was selected to be a part of the teen roundtable for the city of Bloomington. In this role, she participated in monthly meetings and discussions regarding important issues that affect teens in Bloomington including education and community engagement. She also served on the youth participatory budget steering committee for the city of Bloomington. Naomi has volunteered at My Sister’s Closet and the Boys and Girls Club. Due to her hard work as a scholar and her community involvement, Naomi has received several honors including the finer woman award from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated; the S.W.A.G.G.E.R. (students who act generously, grow and earn respect) award from the Commission on the Status of Children and Youth; and the outstanding leader of tomorrow award at the 2019 city of Bloomington Black History Month Gala.
Naomi has participated in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated signature youth programs through our chapter including the ASCEND program and the college admissions process (#CAP) initiative. Naomi is passionate about helping collegiate athletes be successful and ultimately plans to become an athletic director at a university. She will enter Ivy Tech Community College this fall followed by Indiana University majoring in sports marketing and management.
